On Tuesday, October 24, 2006, around 4 a.m., the container ship Rokia Delmas, suffering from a total engine failure, was driven by the storm onto the southern coast of Île de Ré. After anchoring, it ran aground by the stern on a rocky shoal approximately 1 nautical mile south of La Couarde-sur-Mer. The vessel was carrying cocoa beans, timber, 600 tonnes of heavy fuel oil (IFO 380), and 50 tonnes of marine diesel. (Source: Cedre)
Le Floch Dépollution was commissioned to monitor the coastline during the ship dismantling operations, in order to detect any pollution between July and November 2007 along Île de Ré, La Rochelle, and Île d’Oléron.
A few oil patches were reported along the southern coast of Île de Ré between October and November 2007.
