Context
Located on the southeastern coast of the island of Ouessant, the Bouge Pep dumpsite was used for over 70 years as a disposal site for household waste and various materials. Exposed to the elements on a cliff edge, it posed a major environmental risk: during storms, part of the waste threatened to fall into the Iroise Sea.
As part of a pilot project led by the Iroise Marine Natural Park, Le Floch Dépollution was commissioned to carry out all the site’s remediation, stabilization, and ecological restoration work.
Le contexte
The former dumpsite contained several thousand cubic meters of waste mixed with natural substrate. Its proximity to the sea and the instability of the terrain made the site particularly vulnerable. A rapid intervention was necessary to eliminate the risk of marine pollution and to preserve a sector located within a protected natural area.

Large-scale technical intervention
Le Floch Dépollution mobilized its specialized teams to carry out a complex project in a challenging island context.
Our tasks included:
Securing access to the site, located on a steep slope and exposed to harsh weather conditions
Manually and mechanically removing accumulated waste from the pit and surrounding areas
Sorting and packaging each type of material (plastics, scrap metal, rubble, hazardous waste, etc.)
Transporting all waste to the mainland for treatment or recovery through appropriate channels
This extraction and rigorous waste management phase permanently eliminated the risk of pollution reaching the sea.
Ecological restoration
After waste removal, the site was stabilized and renatured. The goal was to restore a landscape consistent with its environment and to encourage natural recolonization by local flora. Today, Bouge Pep is gradually regaining its natural identity and reintegrating into the Ouessant landscape.
A pilot project of national significance
The rehabilitation of the Bouge Pep dumpsite represents an experimental project, financially supported by France Relance and the European Union.
This project also served as a basis for the development of the National Plan for the Removal of Coastal Landfills, providing concrete feedback and reproducible methods for managing and restoring similar sites across France.
Le Floch Dépollution is proud to have contributed to this ambitious project, demonstrating our expertise in complex waste management, the handling of sensitive sites, and environmental restoration.
