On March 16, a rupture of a tanker loading pipe at the Donges terminal resulted in an estimated 500 tonnes of Fuel 380 being released into the water, affecting the banks around the refinery and the Loire River.
From March 17, a Le Floch Dépollution team was on site to set up and coordinate the cleanup operations.
The first affected sites were:
South bank: Frossay reed beds
North bank: St Nazaire beaches and Donges LNG terminal
By Friday, March 21, 61 personnel were mobilized, and operations continued throughout the weekend.
Areas where Le Floch Dépollution operated:
South bank: Port autonome de Paimboeuf, Japanese garden at the former Ramée lighthouse, Grand Carnet lighthouse area, Île de la Maréchale, rock embankments, and chemical dock at Frossay
North bank: St Nazaire beaches, old pier and locks, GDF pumping docks, docks 7, 4, and agro-industrial docks, Pornichet and La Baule beaches, Aker Yard site, oil terminal
Loire River islands: Petit Bilho and Grand Bilho islands, as well as Île d’Yeu
At the peak of the operation, our workforce reached approximately 240 people.
